- Establish guiding questions
- What do you need to know?
- Choose sources for introductory information
- Find & Gather background information
- Number each source
- Use quotation marks for cut/pasted information
- Paraphrase after you fully understand the information
- Identify narrower questions, based on new understandings
- What else do you need to know?
- Choose sources for specific and scholarly information
- Which information platforms will be best (databases? news sites?)
- What types of information do you need: statistics? lab reports? a real person/expert?
- Gather more focused evidence from those sources
- Number each source
- Use quotation marks for cut/pasted information
- Paraphrase after you fully understand the information
- Organize information into an outline
- Headings
- Supporting facts (w/source #)
- Remember to keep quotation marks around quoted facts
- Write the paper
- Include source #s next to facts
- All facts from other source must have the source number (whether quoted or paraphrased)
- Create citations for sources used (Noodletools)
- Add in-text citations next to the facts in your paper
- Put whatever comes first in the full citation in parenthesis with the page if there is one
