When reading NONFICTION, remember...

  • You are reading to LEARN, so note new information in your own words, to be sure you understand it
  • The text will often teach you "How" something works - could you explain it to a friend?
  • The text is based on real information and facts - where is the information from?
  • Use text features such as diagrams, lists, and charts to get more information - how to they add to your understanding?
  • Notice where the information comes from - is someone selling a product? convincing you of something that doesn't fit the science facts?
